Installing a TrueType Font in Windows

For illustration purposes, the instructions below assume you are installing a
TrueType font having the filename font.ttf. When you see this below, substitute
the filename of your own font on the disk.

Installing in Windows 3.1:
--------------------------

1.Copy the file font.ttf from the floppy to your hard disk (be sure to
substitute the actual filename of your font on the disk, instead of using
"font.ttf"). For this example, let's say you copy it to your root directory.
2.In the Main Group, double-click on the Control Panel icon.
3.From the Control Panel, double-click on the Fonts icon.
4.In the Fonts dialogue window, click on the "Add..." button.
5.In the "Directories:" box in the lower left corner of the "Add Fonts"
window, select the directory from step #1 above where you copied the file
  font.ttf.
6.In the list of fonts, you should see one labeled with the name I listed in
my accompanying letter. Double-click on it.
7.Click on the "Cancel" button to close the "Add Fonts" window.
8.(This step is optional - do it only if directed by the accompanying letter)
Exit Windows, then edit the file c:\windows\win.ini. In this file, look for
a line that says [TrueType], and add the following line immediately after
  it:
                          OutlineThreshold=70
9.Restart Windows, and you can now select your custom font in your word
processor from the list of TrueType fonts.

Step #8 above is optional. There are some cases where you will not want to
change the OutlineThreshold parameter from its default parameter - sometimes it
will mess up the display of other fonts.

If you do not add the line in step #8 in your win.ini file when I recommend
doing so in my letter, then at some point sizes, characters in the font may
display and print as a hollow box instead of your logo, or you may find it
will display on screen but not print on paper.

Installing in Windows 95:

1. Copy the file font.ttf from the floppy to your hard disk (be sure to
substitute the actual filename of your font on the disk, instead of using
"font.ttf"). For this example, let's say you copy it to your root directory.
2. Click the Start button and select the "Settings" menu item
3. Select "Control Panel".
4. Double-click on the "Fonts" icon.
5. Select the "File" menu choice, followed by "Install New Font".
6. Select the drive and directory from step #1 above where you copied the file
   font.ttf.
7. In the list of fonts, you should see one labeled with the name I listed in
my accompanying letter. Double-click on it.
8. You can now close the Font window and Control Panel window you opened by
clicking on the "x" in the upper right corner.
